Swampscott’s Annual Hydrant Flushing Program
Starts Monday, August 1, 2016
The Swampscott Department of Public Works will start its~Annual Hydrant Flushing Program~beginning Monday, August 1st, 2016 beginning at~6 p.m. through 10 p.m., Monday through Friday over the next several weeks.
This program will begin in the area of higher elevations between Humphrey Street (to the South), Forest Avenue (to the North), Redington Street (to the West) and Pleasant Street (to the East). This program will continue in this area for several nights (see map below).
There will be no interruption in water service, but residents in this area will most likely experience rusty water during this time. Residents should refrain from doing laundry when they notice rusty water. The rust should clear within a few hours after the flushing in the immediate area. If residents still experience discoloration, residents are urged to run their taps (cold water) until the water from their taps is running clear.
Residents will be notified by automated phone calls as this program moves to other areas of town.
In addition, residents will notice the Swampscott Fire Department out in various areas throughout the Town conducting Flow Testing.
We regret any inconvenience that this causes.
